Overview
Land Àjọ Technologies Limited ("Land Àjọ", "we", "our", "us") operates the Land Àjọ mobile application (available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store) and website at landajo.ng. We are committed to protecting your personal data in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019 (NDPR), the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), and applicable requirements of Apple Inc. and Google LLC for apps distributed through their respective stores.
This Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights as a data subject.
By using the Land Àjọ app or website you confirm you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
Data We Collect
Information you provide
- Full name, email address, phone number and residential address at registration
- Government-issued identity documents (NIN, BVN, Passport or Driver's Licence) for KYC verification as required under Nigerian law
- Payment information — card details are tokenised and processed by PCI-DSS-compliant payment processors; we do not store raw card data
- Plot selections, instalment plan choices and any messages you send us
Information collected automatically
- Device identifiers (device model, OS version, unique device ID)
- IP address, general location (country/city), browser type
- In-app usage data: screens viewed, taps, session duration, crash reports
- Log data: access times, features used, errors
Information from third parties
- Identity verification results from our KYC/AML partners
- Payment status confirmations from payment processors
- Land registry and survey data from Nigerian government databases (for title verification)
How We Use It
- Account creation and management — to register you, verify your identity and keep your account secure
- Instalment plan administration — to record contributions, track plan progress and issue title upon completion
- Payments — to process monthly contributions and send payment confirmations
- Legal and regulatory compliance — KYC, AML, tax and land-registry obligations under Nigerian law
- Customer support — to respond to your queries and resolve issues
- Product improvement — aggregated, anonymised analytics to improve the app experience
- Communications — plan updates, payment reminders, and (where you have opted in) product news
We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use it for automated decision-making that produces legal effects without human review.
Legal Basis (NDPR / NDPA)
- Contract — processing necessary to perform the instalment plan agreement with you (NDPA s.25(b))
- Legal obligation — KYC, AML and tax reporting required by Nigerian law (NDPA s.25(c))
- Legitimate interests — fraud prevention, security, and anonymised analytics (NDPA s.25(f))
- Consent — marketing communications; you may withdraw consent at any time (NDPA s.25(a))
App Permissions
The Land Àjọ mobile application may request the following device permissions:
- Camera — to photograph your identity documents during KYC verification (optional; you may upload from your gallery instead)
- Photo library / Files — to upload document images from your device
- Notifications — to send payment reminders and plan updates (you can disable in device settings)
- Face ID / Touch ID (iOS) — for secure app login (optional; standard password login is always available)
- Internet access — required to connect to Land Àjọ services
We collect only the minimum data required for each permission. You may revoke permissions in your device settings at any time; doing so may limit some features.
Apple App Store note: the app is provided under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of our Terms of Service and may enforce them against you.
Google Play note: the app complies with Google Play Developer Programme Policies including Google's User Data Policy.
Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active and for seven (7) years after closure, in line with Nigerian tax and land-registry obligations. KYC documents are retained for five (5) years after the end of the business relationship as required under the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.
Anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely. You may request erasure of data we hold beyond what is legally required — see Your Rights below.
Security
We implement industry-standard safeguards including TLS encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest, role-based access controls, regular penetration testing, and secure coding practices. Payment card data is never stored on our systems — it is tokenised by our PCI-DSS-certified payment processor.
Despite best efforts, no system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at security@landajo.ng.
Your Rights (NDPR / NDPA)
Under Nigerian data protection law you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure — ask us to delete data we no longer need (subject to legal retention obligations)
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing
- Withdraw consent — where processing is consent-based, withdraw at any time without affecting prior lawful processing
To exercise any right, email privacy@landajo.ng. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at ndpc.gov.ng.
Children
Land Àjọ is not directed at persons under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a minor has registered, contact us at privacy@landajo.ng and we will delete their data promptly.
International Transfers
Your data is primarily processed in Nigeria. Where we use cloud services or processors based outside Nigeria, we ensure adequate protections are in place (such as standard contractual clauses) in accordance with NDPA Part V requirements on cross-border data transfers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via the app or email at least 14 days before the change takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
